DARMASISWA RI PROGRAM

Darmasiswa is a scholarship program open to all foreign students from countries with which Indonesia has friendly relations, to study Indonesia language, arts, music, and crafts. Participants can choose to study at any universities and colleges participating in the program.

The main purpose of the Darmasiswa program is to arouse and foster interest in Indonesian language and cultures. It has also been designed to reciprocate scholarship programs provided by other countries for Indonesian citizens and provide stronger cultural links with these nations.

The Darmasiswa program is essentially a “non-degree“ program undertaken within or less than a year. The participants are prohibited from engaging in any political and or business activities which may result in destabilizing government programs or lead to personal profits or gains.

Rights and obligation of the participants:
  1. Free of tuition fee;
  2. The participants may seek assistance form their own university in finding a house/room to rent;
  3. The participants will be picked up at the airport upon arrival;
  4. The participants have to obey the regulation of the government of the Republic of Indonesia and those of higher education where they study.

DARMASISWA RI PLUS PROGRAM

Students of DARMASISWA program who have been invited to study in university/college required to teach one of the foreign languages (English, French, Germany, Japanese, and Chinese) to vocational schools as native speaker.

Rights and Obligation of the participants
  1. Free of tuition fee.
  2. Accommodation is provided by the school or at the teachers’ place.
  3. The participants will be fetched at the airport when they are arrived.
  4. The participant required to teach foreign language at the Senior Vocational High.
  5. School (SMK) or at the Vocational Development Education Centre (VEDC) as a native speaker.

PROCEDURES (DARMASISWA RI PROGRAM AND DARMASISWA RI PLUS PROGRAM)

A. DOCUMENT OF APPLICANTS

The applicants are allowed to apply for more than one Higher Education Institutions and submit their complete application forms and other documents to the Embassy or Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia where the applicants reside.

The documents of applicants who have been selected by the Indonesian Embassy then those will be submitted to the Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education or The Directorate of Public Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which the following addresses:

B. QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANTS/ PARTICIPANTS


The applicants for the DARMASISWA the Republic of Indonesia should meet the following qualifications:
  1. Are not more than 35 years old of age.
  2. Have completed Secondary Education or its equivalent.
  3. Have a basic knowledge of the field they are applying for.
  4. Have filled in the Application Form provided by the Ministry of National Education (MONE) trough the Indonesian Attaché/ Embassy in their countries of residence. The said form should be accompanied by three (3) copies of the applicants’ latest passport photo.
  5. Are in good health evidenced by a Medical Certificate duly signed by a doctor from their countries of residence and the Medical Examination Form provided by the MONE trough the Indonesian Attaché/ Embassy in the applicants’ countries of residence.
  6. Submit their application documents to the Indonesian Attaché/ Embassy in their countries of residence.
  7. Submit five (5) copies of their latest passport photo of 2X3 cm and 4X6 cm to the MONE upon arrival in Indonesia.
  8. Submit a photocopy of their passports valid for at least two (2) years at the minimum.

C. VISA ARRANGEMENT

  1. To study in Indonesia, the Darmasiswa participant is required to have a social visit visa issued by the Indonesian Embassy in the participant’s country of residence.
  2. Upon arrival in Indonesia, the Darmasiswa participant’s passport has to be submitted to the Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education, for necessary arrangements for obtaining recommendations of the Secretariat of State and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  3. The participants are strongly advised not to apply a tourist visa for study purposes. It will be costly for the participants concerned to convert a tourist visa into a temporary stay permit because they must leave Indonesia for another country and obtain a social visit visa from the Indonesian Embassy there before reentering Indonesia.

D. MONTHLY STIPEND

The Darmasiswa are entitled to a monthly allowance in the amount of Rp. 1.000.000,- (One million rupiahs) as a part for cost living, book, and other materials, transportation, medical/health, pocket money and miscellaneous expenses. Aside from this allowance, participants who undertake their studies for more than three (3) months shall receive an annual clothing allowance at the amount of three hundred thousand rupiahs (Rp. 300.000,-)

E. AIRFARE TICKET

The Government of Republic of Indonesia does not provide the airfare tickets of the participants.


F. EXTENTION OF STUDIES USING PERSONAL FUNDS

A Darmasiswa participant may request for an extension of study using his/her personal funds based upon the following requirements/ conditions:
  1. Letter of request must be addressed to the Director General of Higher Education/ MONE.
  2. The request letter and all requirements will be considered by the Director General of Higher Education for approval.
  3. The Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, MONE will then issue a Study Permit to the participant, addressed to the university/ college/ department where the participant will enroll. With the Study Permit the participant can now apply for a Residence Permit the immigration office.
